incendio

October 16, 2009, 7:30 p.m.—Incendio

Reno Concert’s is proud to open the 2009-10 season with acclaimed world-guitar-fusion trio Incendio. The group’s richly textured music is rooted in myriad sources: Carbé’s flamenco and classical guitar training as well as her Sicilian ancestry, Durand’s Peruvian heritage, Stubblefield’s European travels and musical collaborations with Kuwaiti oud maestro Waleed Hamad, not to mention Durand’s penchant for rock-style dramatics and Stubblefield’s lightning-fingered jazz-fusion mastery. Carbé’s deceptively graceful bass and guitar playing grounds Durand and Stubblefield’s dazzling twin-guitar attack, resulting in adrenalizing sonic explorations that take on greater dimension when they call longtime friends like percussionist Bryan Brock and drummer Nicole Falzone.

This Los Angeles-based group started in 1999, and came of age during the last gasp of the old record industry paradigm. Faced with the prospect of being an instrumental music-driven band, Incendio has persevered and even thrived, taking instrumental Spanish guitar music to new and uncharted artistic levels.

The group has had six international CD releases, with a seventh, the guitar trio CD “Vihuela”, due to come out on their own Incendio Music label in March 2009. They additionally have a live DVD, “Dia y Noche”, which has received critical acclaim for its sonic quality and uncompromising focus on “just the music”.

About Us

Reno Concerts, formerly Washoe County Concerts, is the oldest performing arts presenter in Nevada and an all volunteer organization. Started in 1934, Reno Concerts has changed from just being an entertainment venue to and educational organization, providing a musical opportunities to thousands of students every year.

Our mission

• To enhance the arts in Truckee Meadows and to broaden the musical appreciation of local residents by celebrating culturally diverse music, and bringing international artists as well as American performers to our community so that all may celebrate a wide range of music and enjoy the experience at an affordable price.

• To give outstanding young musicians an opportunity to perform outside the traditional recital experience. To encourage and celebrate outstanding local young musicians by providing them a performance venue. To provide a concert and interactive experience at local schools with professional musicians. To support local school music programs.

• In doing so, we provide community members with exposure and introductions to musical styles and artists that they may not be aware of, or may not be represented in the local area. It is our hope that our audience can come to appreciate, take pleasure in, and value all types of musical genres and cultures.

Our Vision

• A setting where the audience reflects the diversity of our community, and individuals are excited and enthusiastic about listening to quality music from all over the world, as well as that of the United States. A setting where young people are engaged in musical studies that include appreciation and performance.
